St. Mary the Virgin

Saint Mary the Virgin, the church in Church Lane, is thought to date back to pre-Norman times.

The Methodist Church

The Methodist Church is also located in Church Lane. Mrs William Booth the wife of the Rev: W. Booth laid the foundation stone of the Methodist Church, in July 1871. The Rev: William Booth, later founded the Salvation Army in 1878.

The Salvation Army

The chapel is attached to an old house built about 1636 called Prospect House. The Baptist chapel said to be built in 1831 and recorded Sunday attendances of, on average, 175 for the morning service and 140 at the afternoon service during 1851.

The Nazarene Chapel is now a private house.

Several members of the Sargent family played in the band of the Salvation Army. A. Ridel, in his book of Ninfield in the Nineties, tells of Sunday evenings in the summer when a drum head service was held on The Green.
